(Basic Peace Officer Training Academy - Modular Level 1)

cThe Module I Academy is a 474-hour (approximately 6 months) course designed to meet the minimum requirements of a Level I Reserve Officer as established by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). It is the last and final component of the Regular Basic Course-Modular Format Academy.
The Module I Academy is a high-discipline/high-stress oriented program with an emphasis on Emergency Vehicle Operations, Lifetime Fitness, Traffic Accident Investigation, Traffic Enforcement, Patrol Tactics, Gang Awareness, Arrest Methods/Defensive Tactics, Investigative Report Writing, and Firearms training. In addition, there are inspections, drill training (formation, facing movements, marching, etc.), and physical exercises (running, push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, etc.). Recruits attend the Academy in full uniform.

There is one knowledge-based examination at the end the course, which requires a recruit to receive a passing score in order to successfully complete the Module I Academy. Students must also successfully pass 13 Scenario Examinations, Physical Training, Defensive Tactics and Firearms testing in order to graduate from the academy.
The academy classes contain both agency-sponsored and self-sponsored students. Self-sponsored students enter the academy at their own expense. Agency-sponsored students are hired by a law enforcement agency prior to entering the academy.
PREREQUISITE: Must meet the criteria established by the Moreno Valley College and POST. Have passed the POST Module II End-of-Course Proficiency Test within the preceding 12 months. Have a Level II POST certificate within 3 years of the start of a Level I Academy.
CERTIFICATION: Level 1 POST certificate is valid for 3 years and meets the requirements for a Level 1 Reserve Peace Officer position.

Upon acceptance, you will be scheduled to attend a recruit orientation, where additional academy information will be provided.
DAYS AND TIMES: Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 1745 hours to 2300 hours. Some Saturdays (0745-1700) based on the schedule . (All dates and times subject to change)
ENROLLMENT:
Self-sponsored students are to follow the steps outlined below. Agencies wishing to enroll personnel are to contact the academy coordinator via the contact information listed.
NOTE: A minimum of 20 students on the first day of class is required in order to proceed with the class session. A notification will be sent out upon cancellation of the course.
Need to be completed/submitted for Acceptance Process:
1. Have a Level 2 POST Certicate valid within 3 years before the start of the academy.
2. Have a qualifying score on the college (Assessment) testing, or provide proof of successfully completing ENG-50 (Basic English Composition) and REA-82 (Reading Level II). Visit www.mvc.edu/law for upcoming testing dates.

4. DOJ Clearance Letter. Complete Live Scan fingerprint application process and submit the DOJ firearms clearance letter that will be sent to you 1-2 weeks later. The letter must be dated within the preceding 6 months of the class start date. If you don’t have the letter, submit proof of completion and then submit your letter once you receive it. 6. DMV Printout. Obtain a print out of your driving record. You can either print it from the DMV website or visit your local DMV office. The printout must be dated within the preceding 6 months of the class start date.
7. Submit a photocopy of your Driver's License, current Vehicle Registration, current Vehicle Insurance card, and medical insurance card (if you have any). In regard to the vehicle registration and insurance, submit the documents for the vehicle(s) that you will be driving throughout the course of the academy.
8. Moreno Valley College On-Line Application. Complete the application process with the college for the semester the course will begin. View On-Line Application Procedures handout on www.mvc.edu/law for further instructions.
9. Physical Fitness Assessment. Upon acceptance of your application, you will be scheduled for a physical fitness assessment. The assessment will consist of push-ups
for one minute, sit-ups for one minute, and a mile and a half run. Your overall fitness will be assessed to determine if you qualify.
NOTE: Once your documents have been submitted to Sgt. Ternes and processed, you will be contacted and provided with further instructions. Final selections are made approximately 1 month before the class start date. Submission of these documents is not a guarantee that you will be selected to attend the academy.
COST BREAKDOWN AND ADDITIONAL FEES:
The $434 Academy Sheriff's Materials Fee for the Learning Domains, Student and Defensive Tactics Manuals, range materials,
and other miscellaneous training materials is due prior to the class start date.
The $869 Moreno Valley College fee (tuition and student health fee) is payable via WebAdvisor upon enrollment in
the class (first week). The aforementioned fees are in addition to the cost of uniforms, equipment, gear bags,
firearms, and ammunition. ***College fee may or may not change based on unit rates and additional fees.
The $1500 EVOC fee is due 10 days before the 1st day of EVOC on the training schedule.

PAYMENT INFORMATION:
All coures fees will be made through the Regional Training Program website payment link. Once accepted to attend the academy, an invoice will be genarated and issued to the student. Course fees must be made 14 days before the start of the academy. If payment is not received on time, you will be dropped from this course.
The college enrollment fees will be billed separately from Riverside County Sheriff's upon registration into the course. Self-sponsored students will pay their course fees online through their WebAdvisor Student accounts which can be accessed at: http://.mvc.edu/webadvisor. The Username is your 7 digit student ID number and the initial password is your six digit date of birth. Fees are paid under the "Make a Payment" option in the Student Menu. VISA, MasterCard and American Express are accepted.
Fees are determined by the number of units for the course multiplied by the $46/per unit fee. Self-Sponsored students must add a one-time semester charge for a $20.00 Student Health Fee for Spring or Fall semester or $17.00 Student Health Fee for Summer or Winter semester. Non-Residency fees, if applicable, are an additional $290.00 per unit fee. Fees are subject to change at any time.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
All students will wear academy issued uniform and gear. Students are responsible to purchase all of their required equipment and have it available on the first day. A list of items can be found on the cost breakdown link above.
